Principal’s Report
Last Weeks of Term Two
At Spearwood Primary we have just over a fortnight to go of this term with some big events to come:
Friday 27 June | Winter Netball and Soccer Carnival – selected students |
Monday 30 June | Reports go home – Pre-Primary to Year 6 |
Tuesday 1 July | Kindergarten reports go home |
Wednesday 2 July | Pre-Primary 100 days of School Celebration |
Friday 4 July | Room 16 Assembly and last day of school |
Teachers are busy working on reports which will go home in week ten.
Get Well Soon
When students are unwell, they need to stay home to rest and recover. Parents should call, use ‘Contact Us’ from the Website or email to let the school know as soon as possible. While attendance is the key to success, safe and well children are a priority. Please avoid sending your child when they may be contagious as this is how illness spreads and continue for longer in a class and the school.
We have had staff off with illnesses for the health and safety of themselves and your children. Thank you for your patience and flexibility when we have relief staff.
Newsletter Changes
We had important parent meetings this week and I will share the information in the next newsletter:
P & C Meeting was on Wednesday 18th June and the School Board Meeting was Monday 16th June.
Term Two, Week Ten newsletter will come in two formats as we transition from this format to a new Sway format. This change has benefits in time reduction and control for our office staff, who work hard to produce the newsletter each fortnight. It will also save money as we will no longer be paying for an external provider.
Staff Changes
We have had big changes in our office staff this week with more to come. Yesterday was the last day for Miss Letitia Semyrko who has worked with us since she was contracted in May 2021, after training here and at a high school. She has won a position at a high school in her dream job. While we will miss her, we are so happy her career is heading in the direction she wants. Thank you, Letitia, for your hard work and dedication to our school in your time here.
At the end of the term Mrs Karen Gore will be taking leave then retiring. She retires after 19 years, most of her career here at Spearwood Primary School. Karen is such a valued staff member for whom nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Karen and her husband, who is also retiring, have always been keen travellers and now have more freedom to do this whenever they want and spend extra time with their many grandchildren. We will miss her and wish her well. Thank you, Karen, for your ten years with me and being so helpful and kind.
In the meantime, Ms Tabitha Riches will be replacing both these part time positions working in the school office on a fixed term contract Monday to Thursday until the end of the year. This is also where Tabitha wants her career to move so, although Early Childhood losses an amazing and valued Education Assistant, we are excited to have her in Administration as our smiling face of the school.
This change causes some other small changes. I will advise in the next newsletter when we have clearance for our replacement staff planning. We are currently running processes for various positions including: Gardener, a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants and an Early Childhood teacher pool. As these finalise, I will advise of staffing positions and changes as soon as possible, hopefully most will be before the end of the term.

Dockers Excursion
Written by our School Captains, Declan and Chloe
"Out of the year 6's that attended we enjoyed the indoor part quite a bit. We participated in many activities such as aboriginal dancing, painting boomerangs, drawing and an interesting speech given by the male Dockers captain and a female player. We only had the chance to engage in a few outdoor activities before it started to rain. When we were inside we got hot dogs and lunch to warm us up."

P & C News

From the P & C Meeting
The P & C still desperately needs members and volunteers. We have been able to keep the canteen open and fundraising and spending happening for this year. We urgently need: a volunteer to run the uniform shop, a treasurer and more canteen volunteers so when current volunteers are unable to attend there are enough parents to keep the canteen open.
The Uniform shop remains closed with no flexi orders. If you need a uniform item, you can drop in on Friday morning and the canteen volunteers will find the time to assist you on top of the other work they are doing. Not all sizes or items are available.
The Canteen is open tomorrow, week eight – Friday 20th June.
The Canteen will be closed next week, week nine – Friday 27th June, because of the Winter Carnival with students and parents attending.
The Canteen will be open in the last week with the student request, a special Domino's order, and free ice-cream for all students.
To keep running at all, the P & C is calling out for a new Treasurer. Our current treasurer, Mrs Rachel Kemp, has kindly stayed on in this role in spite of her child no longer coming to Spearwood Primary School next term as they have moved into a new house and area. Thank you to Rachel for all you have done and continue to do for our school.
