Hello I’m happy to see you at Spearwood Primary School.
We come together on Wadjak Noongar country.
We acknowledge Noongar elders long ago, now and in the future.
Spearwood Primary School is surrounded by beautiful birds, plants and families.
Principal’s Report
Thank you to Mr Jonathan Gillett and Ms Carla Sudholz for taking such good care of the school in my recent absence, thank you to the staff for their hard work and picking up extra jobs in my absence. Thank you to the students, staff and families who have given me such a warm welcome upon my return. My ankle surgery went well. I am recovering well and doing the things I have to do to have future strong bones and muscles. For the present, this includes wearing sneakers which the school usually only sees me wear at Athletics Carnivals.
Schools are such busy places. Last week the year four students participated in a Future Leaders program run by Fremantle College staff and students. We had a very busy and productive School Development Day. This week we had, school photos yesterday, and today and tomorrow we have the Life Education Incursion. We hold the Life Ed. Incursion every second year. Next week the year sixes are going on a fantastic incursion that we will share in the next newsletter.
Please make sure to pay for Life Ed and we are still awaiting quite a few payments for Edu-Dance. If we don’t reach satisfactory levels of payment, we are unable to run these fantastic incursions in the future.
We are halfway through the term. Please note there has been two major changes of dates:
- The Winter Carnival is now in week nine on Friday 27th June, and the
- Room 16 Assembly, year 3-4, is now in week ten on Friday 4th July, 2025.
Winter is here
After a mild and pleasant autumn, winter has hit hard and fast. Please make sure your children are dressed in layers and according to the dress code determined by the School Board. The dress code will have the annual review at the next School Board meeting on Monday 16th June at 3:05pm in Room 12.
Black or grey tracksuit pants are the uniform bottom for winter. Many children wear shorts under their tracksuit pants so they can take the top layer off when it warms up or they get hot doing Physical Education, at recess or lunch.
School polo shirts and jackets are available at the uniform shop. You can order online through flexischools. Plain black or grey jackets, jumpers or sweatshirts are also suitable. These may have any logo no bigger than a credit card but the cheapest are available in plain colours. Under the school polo shirts, students can wear red, white or black plain t-shirts or skivvies with long sleeves. If they get hot, they can take off the undershirts later in the day.
Layers mean that items may be taken off. Make sure all your children's clothing is labelled with their surname so we can return them.
If your children have outgrown school shirts or jackets, and they are in good condition. Please donate these to the unfirm shop. We give second had items to families or children in need, use them when children need a quick change or sell them for a very small price.

Parent Committees
Schools rely on a small group of hard-working parents to volunteer to keep things running. Our parent group shrunk last term and is shrinking again as families move out of the area. We are now desperate for new parents to step up. We need a couple on the Spearwood P & C Executive, we need a person or couple of parents to run the uniform shop, we will need volunteers for the canteen. We need another parent to join the School Board. If we don’t have the minimum numbers, this results in the loss of services to families. I don’t want to close the canteen or not be able to do other fundraising as it impacts so many areas.
Please come along to the next meetings to see where you can assist. Your younger children are welcome in the P & C meeting. We have an Education Assistant supervising students and younger sibling when we hold the school Board meeting. Both meetings take place in Room 12.

Aussie of the Month
Congratulations to Aila, Room 7, on receiving “Aussie of the Month” Award!

Room 6 News
The children in Year 1 and 2 in Room 6 have been reading some whole class novels written by the famous children's author Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
This term we have read The Twits, Fantastic Mr Fox and The Magic Finger.
These exquisite stories have had the children on the edge of their seats, laughing out loud and excited beyond words as to what will happen next.
It has been a delight to see the joy on their faces whilst reading these novels.
The children have really enjoyed discussing the amazing characters that they have been introduced to during the reading.
They have captured the essence of Mr and Mrs Twit in their amazing drawings and artwork. The detail in these drawings is just magnificent.
The children endeavoured to demonstrate the character traits of these mean and disgusting characters. They certainly have brought Mr and Mrs Twit to life through their drawings.
We hope you enjoy them.
Mrs Lisa Miller
