ANZAC Youth Parade
On Wednesday the 9th April, the Year 5 & 6 students in Room 14 with the support of Ms Colleran, Miss Solous and Ms Dowding participated in the RSL City of Cockburn and Cockburn City Council ANZAC Youth Parade and Service. The parade assembled at 9.30am on the verge near the Cockburn City Council in Coleville Crescent.
The parade included the 10th Light Horse Memorial troops, The Scotch College Pipe Band, the City of Cockburn Pipe Band as well as representatives from the Cockburn RSL. The traffic heading East along Spearwood Avenue and the traffic along Rockingham Road was halted while the huge contingency made its way down to the RSL Memorial Park and Field of Poppies on Spearwood Avenue.
The Youth Parade is the only enduring ANZAC youth parade in Australia and has been running annually since 2001. It was designed and introduced by RSL of Australia Life Member, Mr Arthur J Stanton OAM. Mr Stanton also attends and addresses our own Spearwood Primary School annual ANZAC Service.
Although it is a solemn affair all our students participated respectfully in both the parade and the service, once again making our school community very proud.

Easter Parade
I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first Spearwood Primary School Easter Hat Parade but was promised a great show. I was certainly not disappointed!
It was wonderful to see our students design and create their Easter Hats and have the support of so many parents in the student creations. So much work went into the designs. Thank you to all of our judges as I know it wasn’t an easy task to choose the winners. Thank you to the families who attended for making it a lovely community event.
ANZAC Service
On Friday, 11th April, Spearwood Primary School held the annual ANZAC Service. It was a respectful tribute to our fallen soldiers. Our students honoured the tremendous sacrifices made by Australian servicemen and women who have participated in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations around the world, past and present. It was a time to reflect on the impact of war and how it has shaped and defined our shared sense of identity.
Thank you, Ms Dowding and the Year 6 student leaders, for hosting the ceremony and to all students and classroom teachers for learning and singing “The Green Hills of Albany” so beautifully.

WA Student Assistance Payment
To help ease cost-of-living pressures on families, a second round of the WA Student Assistance Payments have been announced.
All Western Australian school students (Kindergarten to Year 12) currently enrolled in a public school, registered non-government school, or home-schooled, with a valid WA student number (WASN) are eligible to claim this payment before it closes on Friday the 4th July.
Your child’s WA Student Number (WASN) is an 8-digit number and is sometimes called a SCSA or student number. This number can be found on the front page of our school reports, the top of your child’s NAPLAN report, or on a student’s SmartRider if they have a student card. Please contact Spearwood Primary School office and we will be able to assist you with the information required - 9414 2300.
Student Assistance Payment is available to claim within the ServiceWA app.
Details on eligibility requirements and how to claim can be found on the website: https://www.education.wa.edu.au/wasap
Mother’s Day Stall
The P & C have been busy planning and ensuring your children had the opportunity to buy Mother’s Day presents for a special Mother, Aunt, Grandma or friend. The stall was held on Wednesday 7th May, and it was a great success. There was great excitement as the students were amazed at how many choices, they had to purchase their gifts. Thank you to the wonderful work the P&C, in particularly Katherine and Geoff Wood for running the stall.
We wish all the mothers, grandmothers, aunties and friends within our community a wonderful day on, Sunday.
Carla Sudholz
Acting Principal
