Principal’s Report
Term One
Tomorrow is the last day of Term One.
The School Holidays are Saturday 12th April to Monday 28th April, 2025.
The school office will be open on Monday 28th April and the Staff will be doing Professional Development.
Students start Term Two on Tuesday 29th April, 2025.
Tomorrow is also our ANZAC Assembly with special guests RSL representatives Mr Arthur Stanton and Mrs Nola Stanton, plus City of Cockburn Councillor Phoebe Corke. ANZAC Day is the 25th April and this falls during the holidays. We like to show our respect and do the related learning before the event so students can learn about this important Day of Remembrance and Respect.
Every term is busy, but this last week has been filled to the brim with exciting highlights. We will focus on these events later in this newsletter and the next newsletter, but I would like to highlight my exceptional staff. These extra events which are so often the highlights of the year take a great deal of planning, flexibility, enthusiasm, organisation and so many of my staff’s skills. I know the families appreciate the effort and I want my staff to know how much I appreciate them as well. I know how lucky I am to have such quality people surrounding me who put the children first in our ‘High Care, High Expectations’ school. All schools have many caring dedicated people making great things happen for children. I know I have some of the most exceptional human beings working here every day. Thank you to you all!
Also during this holiday break is Easter when many families manage to get away. Please travel safely and we will see you in Term Two.
Congratulations Carla
At the Friday 28th March Assembly our amazing Deputy Principal, Carla Sudholz announced that she will be welcoming a baby girl into her family in Term Three. It is very exciting news, and we will update you on the school leadership plans later in the year. Carla having her second child is terrific and we want her to take time and enjoy them both. Carla is permanent to our school so when she wants to return, she will be back at Spearwood Primary School.
Term Two
Spearwood has lots of extra helping hands with a Work Experience student, Student Education Assistants and a Student Teacher here during the term. I know you will welcome them into our lovely community.
I will be on leave for the first four weeks of term two. I have put this ankle surgery off for a long time but will get on with it during the holidays.
The school leadership and management plan for the four weeks is as follows:
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Principal Miss Carla Sudholz
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Relief Principal Mr Jonathon Gillett
Carla Sudholz is highly capable, but I discussed my preference for her to not take on the whole job and she agreed. My concern is that her amazing work ethic and professionalism would mean she would do almost all the two jobs if I only replaced me with her.
Toni Lang will step into the Deputy role on Wednesday and Fridays while Carla is Principal. We are trialling two exceptional teachers to take the year 3-4 class for those days.
Mr John Gillett is highly experienced, and the staff will work well with him. He is a ‘High Care’ student focussed Principal and will fit our school culture well. I am sure you will enjoy having him here.
I will be able to do online stuff at home to assist where possible.

Phoenix Shopping Centre School Rewards
A massive thank you to our school community who participated in the School Rewards competition which resulted in Spearwood Primary School coming in second place winning $2,500 for the school.
Thank you!
6 Kinds of Best
Spearwood Primary School students have been working hard all term to demonstrate our 6 Kinds of Best values. Our staff have given out over 700 besties in recognition of students demonstrating the values. These besties go towards the end of term faction award.
This term saw Green faction in 3rd with 217 besties, Blue faction coming in 2nd place with 242 besties and Gold faction coming first by only 2 besties with a total of 244 besties.
Gold faction will be awarded tomorrow with an extended lunch break including a special game of chasey around the school buildings!
Well done to not only Gold faction but all Spearwood students for their hard work and commitment this term. I look forward to seeing if staff can award even more besties in Term 2.

Edu-Dance 2025
On Tuesday 8th April we were entertained by the joyful Edu-Dance Concert. It is always an annual highlight and a delightful culmination of a term’s worth of Physical Education: Dance lessons. Thanks to Jo who teaches these amazing dances and comes up with the cool costume ideas. Thanks to the parents who supplied what their children needed and some very impressive hair dos!
Thank you to Education Assistants, Mrs Susie Williams, Mrs Amy McWilliam and Mrs Elaine Visioli who worked on costumes and other supports to make the show a success. Thank you to the students who worked hard learning the dances and then astonished us with their performances. The facial expressions, vocalisations and dancing is just total entertainment. Thanks to all who helped set up and clear up. Thank you to the P & C Committee for the raffle.
Thank you to Ms Rona Gartner who worked with most of the classes and pulls the whole concert together. She works so many extra hours, shops, washes clothing for costumes, makes things and generally lets her creative side shine. Thank you for your organisation and hard work that goes in to make this fantastic concert.

Sports Report
Wow – Term 1 was certainly action packed.
The children enjoyed the softball clinics, and I think everyone loved their Edu Dance classes. They were all very excited on concert day, albeit with a few nerves. I am sure you would agree they all performed brilliantly and looked fabulous. (Thank you for sending in any little costume requirements.)
Next term I am hoping to be running a 4-week bike riding and safety course through the Sporting Schools program. The school holiday is a great time to check your child’s bike is roadworthy and that they have a helmet. If your child does not have a bike maybe they can share with a sibling or friend (if the size is compatible.) I will provide further updates early next term.
As our seasons are changing, different fruits are in season, therefore you can add in some changes for Crunch and Sip time. While the weather is still lovely you can use this time to get out of the house – go for a walk, maybe visit the beach, go bike riding, visit a playground ….. Great exercises and all free 😊
Have a great holiday !
