Principal’s Report
Friday 4th July,2025
Tomorrow is the last day of school before our mid-year break. It is a banner day with: Room 16 Year 3/4 Assembly, Pizza Lunch from canteen and Free ice creams for everyone who wants one.
The mid-year holidays are from Saturday 5th July to Sunday 20th July.
Enjoy some family time over the next two weeks.
We look forward to seeing everyone back rested and well on Monday 21st July.
School Board – Term Two
On Monday 16th June, Spearwood Primary School Board met after school. We welcomed a new parent member, Mrs Elena Noema. Remember that all parents are welcome to come to the meetings. On top of the usual financial checks and reports, I went through the Financial Portal to help explain how funding for the school is calculated and used. I explained that we have guidelines and a minimal expenditure. I showed the: School Allocation Module, Gateways, operational dashboard, census and disability allocations. I also briefly described the planning tool for leave and how affects staff budget and plans.
The Board also did a full annual review of the School Dress Code. There was only a slight modification regarding the supply of non-uniform items. These items can be purchased much more cheaply than we can supply with plain black or grey items without logos being very cheap.
The updated School Dress Code is attached to the website and also attached to this Newsletter. The good news is that we now have a volunteer to run the uniform shop who will be opening it on Monday afternoons. This means we will be able to raise the standards as everyone will be able to buy polos, jackets and hats as required.
P & C
On Wednesday 18th June, Spearwood Primary School P & C met in the morning. The P & C thanked Mr David Kemp for his work with, and on, the P & C as their family move to a new school. Thankfully, Mrs Rachel Kemp has kindly offered to continue in the role as treasurer until a new treasurer can be found, trained and handed over to plus be put onto all the banking and other systems. Thank you to Rachel for saving the P & C and canteen. This is on top of all the hard work you have done over the years.
Everyone is welcome at meetings and to volunteer. Most come as new people and then make new friends. This kind and welcoming group is always a productive and fun group of people who care about our school and our children.
Staff Changes
New to staff for Semester two is our new Gardener, Mr Peter Munn. Peter will be working here on Mondays to Wednesday and we are excited to finally have someone back in the permanent position.
We thank our relief staff: Mrs Annette Patterson, Mr Luke Weaver and Mr Nicholas Taylor for their hard work in raising and maintaining the standards of the school grounds. We thank our volunteers for their weekly work contributing to that process.
Appointed again but to a larger role is Ms Lexi Edwards. Lexi will be working three days a week in the kindergarten class for second semester.
We are in the process of finalising pools for Special Needs Education Assistant and Early Childhood Teacher. We are hoping to announce who will be selected from the pools for positions next term. These processes have been held up at various points that are outside our control, but we will announce any finalised appointments as soon as possible.
Kindergarten – Three Days a Week
Kindergarten classes start their three day a week program on Tuesday 22nd July. They will be attending Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays each week until the end of the year. Staffing will be finalised as soon as possible for this room.
Term Three - starts on Monday 21st July.

NAIDOC WEEK ACTIVITY Room 6 & Room 7

Strength Vision Legacy
Room 6 and 7 read the Dreamtime story, "How the birds got their colours", as one of our focus activities for NAIDOC WEEK. Dreamtime stories form the Aboriginal Culture have been handed down throughout the generations.
This amazing LEGACY of the Dreamtime stories helps to keep the Aboriginal culture alive and helps to develop knowledge and understanding in our early years of learning.
The class also learnt the Noongar names of some of the birds from the story.
Please be sure to take a look at the beautiful display in the under covered area of all the brightly coloured birds.
The Dreamtime stories are a truly beautiful way to pass stories down from generation to generation. We thank our indigenous members of the community for this Legacy.
Lightning Carnival

A busy term of Phys Ed culminated with most of the senior class participating in the Lightning Carnival, with teams competing in soccer and netball. Everyone was very excited as they headed off. Both teams enjoyed their day and each won a few games. Displaying great team spirit and of course admirable sportsmanship. The soccer team looked fabulous in their awesome new shirts, purchased by our fantastic P&C.
A big thank you to Signora Kovacevic for coaching the soccer team during her lunch times and to Ms Colleran for coaching them at the Carnival. Thanks also to Gayle Morgan and Ms Waihua for their support at the Netball Carnival.
Thank you to all the parents and friends who came along to support our teams.
Finally, a big Thank you to Ms Rotondella for supporting myself and our students to participate in these carnivals. With our very small number of staff and students these events can be a logistical nightmare.
Fortunately, the sun was shining, and all the students were busy all day. I am sure they all slept very well that night.
